Full Moon in Cancer - Nostalgia & Release

“Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change.”- Brené Brown

This month's Full Moon is on Tuesday, December 29th at 10:28 pm (EST) at 8º 53' of Cancer, opposite the Sun in Capricorn. The duality of the opposing signs of Cancer (Moon) and Capricorn (Sun) is maternal, nurturing, empathy versus paternal, stoic, tradition. Finding balance in the energy of the two opposing signs may be amplified under the Full Moon energy, especially at the end of this year which is deserving of much reflection and release. The Moon is in her own sign of Cancer for this Full Moon, which softens the energy, and can help us to release this year with gratitude and grace. Remember, we had two New Moons in Cancer this year, one that was also a powerful total solar eclipse on June 21st and the second on July 20th.

We can learn from the animal associated with the sign of Cancer, the Crab. Think of the tough shell, the exoskeleton and the pincers protecting all of the soft, gooey insides. Oftentimes with Cancerian energy, the tendency is to put up a protective barrier in order to defend one's vulnerability (hence the Brené Brown quote!). We must keep in mind, that in order for the Crab to grow, assimilating to its vulnerability is imperative; it would not be able to grow without the period of softness, exposure and risk. As this Cancer Full Moon is within a few days of the end of this year, I think it's important to reflect on what's been illuminated this year in terms of our own emotional vulnerability, authenticity and maturity. Releasing protective behaviors, "shells" or remaining barriers to vulnerability could be a wonderful addition to any end of the year ceremonies or rituals.

Cancer Full Moon Astrological Aromatherapy Blend

German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita)

Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanoides)

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

German Chamomile is the signature oil of Cancer and Vetiver is the signature oil of Capricorn. Blending the oils of the two opposing signs can create a sense of balance of the tension and intensity experienced during the Full Moon. German Chamomile is very calming and Vetiver is very grounding. I added Lavender to round out the blend with more soothing energy, and since it can help with sleep. I've experienced much insomnia over the last month or so, and I've heard many others reporting the same. This blend can help with sleep and an overall sense of calm and relaxation. The lunar blends will be back for purchase again next month.

Closing out this historic, rare and tumultuous year with an honest nod to reflection and release around vulnerability seems very much in alignment. Honor your emotions, intuitions and feelings. Release that which is no longer serving your highest good in order clear your energy, creating space for the great shifts that are occurring and coming.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season, and I'm sending warmest wishes for a very happy and optimistic New Year ahead!

With Love and Gratitude,
