Cancer Season - New Moon Blend & Eclipse Season Tips

A New Moon occurs when the Sun & Moon are conjunct, or at the same degree and minute of the same zodiac sign. This conjunction between the Sun and Moon accentuates the energy of the sign, and is a wonderful time of the lunar cycle to think about new beginnings, manifesting and setting intentions for the next month and 6 months.

This month's New Moon occurs on Sunday, June 21st at 2:41 am (EDT) at 0º 21' of the sign of Cancer. The signature oil of Cancer is German, or "Blue" Chamomile, which comprises most of this New Moon blend. German Chamomile is very cooling, and is wonderful for easing inflammation, especially emotional inflammation. It can help inspire hope, patience and forgiveness. Using German Chamomile during times of tension and frustration can help relieve anxiety and bring a welcome sense of calm. I added Lavender to the blend for its soothing and calming effects.

This month's New Moon is also a very powerful, Total Solar Eclipse occurring just hours after the Solstice, and in a tense configuration to the planet Mars. The energy will be greatly amplified.

New Moon in Cancer Diffuser Blend

4 drops German "Blue" Chamomile (Matricaria recutita)

3 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

Add the oils to your favorite diffuser and breathe deeply.

Substitutions and Stones

The aroma of German Chamomile oil is herbaceous and sweet. The oil is a gorgeous blue color, which I find so lovely. If you don't have German Chamomile essential oil, or are unable to order it, no worries! Use the plant instead (the same goes for Lavender). A lovely Chamomile and Lavender tea can also be very soothing, and a good substitute for diffusing the oils. Steep a cup and sip on it as you engage in your New Moon practice. This New Moon is all about nurturing oneself, self-love and self-preservation (see below). Crystals for Cancer season include crystals associated with the Moon such as Moonstone, Selenite and Labradorite.

Cancer Season & This New Moon/Eclipse

The Sun moves into the zodiac sign of Cancer on Saturday, 6/20 at 5:43 pm (EDT), ushering the beginning of Cancer season and the Solstice. The qualities of Cancer include nurture, nostalgia, mothering, emotional maturity and feelings of safety and security. There is a deep connection to maternal energy, intuition and caring for others. It is a Feminine, or Yin, Water sign. Its modality is Cardinal, its symbol is The Crab and it is ruled by the Moon. Cancer rules over the breasts, uterus, belly and general digestion. It relates to caring and nurturing oneself and one another, home, family and nourishing the body. Extreme Cancer energy can be moody, defensive, withdrawn and overprotective. Think about the soft, vulnerable crab inside the tough outer shell, and those pincers! The Cardinal modality is the energy of initiation and beginning. A good analogy for Cardinal Water is primordial soup.

The planetary energy present during this New Moon/Total Solar Eclipse involves more tension from the configuration to the planet Mars. It is similar to the tense and confusing energy present during the Full Moon two weeks ago, which kicked off this eclipse season. There will be more emotional undertones due to the heavy water element presence. It's a very good time to turn inward, be sure to express your feelings and protect your energy. Being in water may also provide some relief. Mercury will join the retrograde parade on 6/18, and Neptune will follow on 6/22, bringing the total number of retrograde planets during this New Moon energy to 6. Venus is still retrograde until 6/25. We can use the nurturing energy of this New Moon, and the inward focus of the retrograde energy to set New Moon intentions about how we care for ourselves and others, what makes us feel safe and secure, and how we can communicate with ourselves and others with more love.

This intense eclipse season will last another 2 weeks after Sunday's New Moon.

Watch the chat I had with Valeri McLaughlin for more tips, information and to learn about the Lunar Nodes and eclipses in general. We also discuss Mercury Retrograde.

I hope this blend is soothing, calming and helps with the intense emotional energies we're collectively navigating. Knowing where Cancer falls in your chart is also a wonderful way to set focused intentions for the New Moon, and to find out if you'll experience any eclipse effects on planets in your chart. Let me know if I can be of service.

Live in touch with your Soul.

New Moon/Eclipse Season Blessings from my Heart to yours,
