A New Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon are conjunct, or at the same degree and minute of the same zodiac sign. This month's New Moon occurs on Sunday, April 11th at 10:31 pm (EDT) at 22º 24' of the sign of Aries. This is the first New Moon of the astrological year, occurring in the later degrees of Aries, which were seeded by Mars (the ruler of this New Moon) during the Mars Retrograde late last year. We'll explore the Sabian symbol for this New Moon, as well as a card I pulled for us, and the deeper meaning of the energy and interplay between the planets in this moment.
The Sabian Symbol for 23º Aries (we round up to the next degree for these symbols) is:
A woman in pastel colors carrying a heavy and valuable but veiled load.
The card:
Aries is the sign related to new life, a clean slate, birth and infancy. There are 4 planets (Venus, Mercury, Sun and Moon) and Chiron (Master Teacher) in Aries for this New Moon. When the Moon is dark, we have the opportunity for introspection, to go within, to rest and to consider what we'd like to see materialize or manifest in our lives over the next 6 months. The New Moon is the beginning and the Full Moon (in the same sign) is the end, or culmination of the Lunar journey.
We can draw from the Sabian Symbol's imagery for ideas about seeds to pick and plant in our consciousness and our Soul's garden. Seeds that will grow and create the beautiful words and pages of the story. There's also a challenge and a call to transform, particularly in our connection and relationship to ourselves. Thinking outside of the box, outside of the comfort zone, and having the courage to explore an idea or action that may be completely new and different are in play.
The opportunity for great abundance is present in responding to the call with diligence, determination, bravery and maturity.
Perhaps the spark incubating in seeds created in August, October and/or December 2020 (Mars in Aries/Retrograde at 22º) is being carried under the veil? What was happening during that time? Would releasing this new life into the world help lighten the load? What about healing and release of anything that surfaced during the Libra Full Moon?
The introspective journey continues throughout the day today, tomorrow and until that silver sliver appears in the evening sky. An active form of meditation may help things shake loose. Aries/Fire energy likes movement. A long walk, journaling, a candid and civil conversation, any movement to get the energy flowing could help stoke the spark and tend the flame. Remember that Rosemary is the Signature Oil for Aries. Adding Rosemary essential oil, or even the herb, to your activity could strengthen the energy and intention. Your individual, sovereign contribution matters!
I hope this information serves as a helpful guide for this Aries New Moon.
As I always suggest, working with the themes of the Aries part of your chart can make the New Moon energy even more powerful!
