New Moon in Capricorn - A Beautiful Disaster

Images from the movie What Dreams May Come

A New Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon are conjunct, or at the same degree and minute of the same zodiac sign. This month's New Moon occurs on Wednesday, January 13th at 12:01 am (EST) at 23º 13' of the sign of Capricorn. This is the first New Moon of 2021.

Are things feeling heavy? The energy is heavy and gritty due to a number of factors. One year ago today was the Saturn/Pluto conjunction at roughly the same degree of Capricorn (22º 45') as this New Moon, which is also conjunct Pluto. Pluto, or Hades, is the Lord of the Underworld. The Underworld journey, the Dark Night of the Soul, the beautiful disaster we've all experienced, and continue to experience, was seeded in these degrees of Capricorn. The Sabian symbols for 23º and 24º degrees of Capricorn are as follows:

23º - Two awards for bravery in war

24º - A woman entering a convent

I think this imagery speaks volumes of our collective experience and provides some ideas for reflection and intention setting. When we're under the influence of Pluto, themes include devastating forces, darkness, shadows, grief, depths of the psyche, shame, compulsion and fears. It's also important to remember all of the beauty that lies beneath, all of the life that begins in the darkness and that some of the greatest victories of life come from facing and acknowledging our deepest fears. We all get awards for our bravest and most vulnerable moments over the last year, and I feel the image of A woman entering a convent encourages us to focus on that which we're now devoted, or even committing or recommitting our lives in this new year. Consider setting intentions around a new beginning of the revised dream. In our own Underworld journeys, we can revisit and rescue the lost or banished parts of ourselves. Honoring and remembering the pieces as we collect them and put them back together in a new and better way.

A soul rebuilding is a wonderful focus for a New Moon in Capricorn in Pluto's embrace.

What Dreams May Come is a cinematically beautiful story that gives context to this energy.

Beautiful Disaster Blessings,
